LES NABIS ET LE DECOR

The contribution of the Nabis to the decorative arts, however essential, is still unknown. The question of the decorative as a fundamental principle of the unity of creation was essential when the group was formed in the late 1880s among these artists who wanted to break down the line between fine and applied arts. True pioneers of modern decor, Bonnard, Vuillard, Maurice Denis, Sérusier, Ranson, Vallotton, defended an art directly linked to life. They created original, joyful and rhythmic works, intended to decorate contemporary interiors in reaction to the aesthetic of pastiche then in vogue.
